ORHUN EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Turkic Council

Union of Turkic Universities

The Orhun Exchange Program for students and academic staff, developed by the Union of Turkic Universities of the Turkic Council and referred to as the "Orhun Process", moved into the implementation phase following the meeting held on April 6–7, 2017, in Bishkek under the presidency of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University (KTMU). During this meeting, the “Draft Regulation of the Orhun Exchange Program of the Turkic Council Union of Turkic Universities” was discussed and adopted. The shared culture, language, and historical unity among Turkic states form the foundation of the cooperation embodied in the Turkic Council. This characteristic distinguishes the Turkic Council from other regional cooperation mechanisms. The fact that the Second Summit of the Turkic Council, held in Bishkek in 2012, was dedicated to “Education, Science, and Cultural Cooperation” is a concrete indicator of this. With the aim of enhancing cooperation between the member countries and higher education institutions, the Union of Turkic Universities was established and has been active since 2013. Numerous meetings have been organized, and the Directive on the Establishment of the Union of Turkic Universities and the Higher Education Area has been adopted. The process, which aims to implement exchange programs between students and academic staff, has been named the “Orhun Process.” The Orhun Program is a student and academic staff mobility program carried out among member universities of the Turkic Council Union of Turkic Universities (TURKUNIB).
